Voices of the Fire Council® is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization advancing Indigenous women’s leadership, cultural connection, and pathways to economic independence across Texas.
We serve Indigenous women over 50 who are ready to build confidence, expand their knowledge, and create long-term stability for their families while remaining rooted in ancestral wisdom and community values.
Through Elder-centered gatherings, mentorship, cultural programming, and optional self-paced educational resources, we support women who are exploring independent income opportunities and personal growth.

Support Anita’s Animal Rescue
Where horses, people, and healing meet.
Anita is of Cherokee, Norwegian, and Swedish ancestry, with deep American family roots.
Her story is one of compassion, connection, and a profound respect for both people and animals.
As an equine psychotherapist, Anita incorporates horses into her therapeutic work, creating opportunities for people to connect, reflect, build trust, and experience healing in a unique and meaningful way.
Horses have a remarkable ability to meet people where they are. They do not ask us to explain our past or find the perfect words for what we are feeling. Through Anita’s guidance, the connection between horse and human creates space for reflection, awareness, trust, and personal growth.
This is the heart of Anita’s “One Who Heals” Corner.
Anita’s compassion for animals extends beyond her work with horses. She is also involved in animal rescue, including helping dogs in need find safety, care, and a second chance. Her relationship with animals reflects a simple but powerful understanding: trust takes time, healing requires patience, and every living being deserves to be treated with dignity.
A Place Where Healing Finds a Home
Some healing happens through words. Some happens through being heard. And sometimes healing begins in the quiet presence of a horse.
At Anita’s Corner, horses are more than part of the surroundings. They become part of the journey, helping people reconnect with themselves in ways words alone may not always reach.
